By no means am I the super bubbly, hyper, cheerleader type. I get down in the dumps at times. But I'd like to think that my overall perception on life is positive.
Because of that I don't like to be around people who are chronically negative. Sure we all need to vent from time to time and we all get annoyed on occasion. But I'm talking about the person who constantly harps negatively on a subject. Or the person that can always find the tiny sliver of a situation that will negatively impact them personally.
Do you know anyone like that? Isn't it emotionally draining to be around a person like that? Do you ever wonder what it is about their lives that makes them so unhappy?
Lately, I've had a lot of interaction with negativity and it's really dragged me down. Today I thought to myself:
This is really silly. I have a wonderful, happy, healthy home life. Why am I letting things outside my home make me so upset?
So I've decided to share with you some of the things that make me happy and I want to hear some of yours.
In no particular order, here are a few wonderful things about my life:
- My husband is my best friend.
- Our house is safe, healthy, and comfy.
- My husband and I know our children better than anyone.
- I love and respect our children.
- I know our children love and respect us.
- My children have fantastic relationships with both my parents and my mother-in-law.
- I trust my children.
- I know my children's friends.
- We have the sweetest dog in the world.
- My parents and MIL are healthy.
- Every night I fall asleep holding my husband's hand.
Now it's your turn. What makes you happy?

This is a great reminder to stop and reflect on the positive. The things making me smile today? My baby's impossibly chubby thighs, my toddler's dance moves, my husband's offer to play with the boys while I made supper in peace, and, yes, chocolate-covered pretzels. (Just writing that list brought a smile to my face; super therapy!)
Wonderful comments everyone!!! Reading them makes me even happier!
Marcia - Yes! Laughter is the best therapy! My best friend is like my sister too. ;)
Penny - Good health and great friends are a wonderful combination! Perhaps you live in the most beautiful COLD place in the world?
Kristen - Chubby baby legs and chocolate-covered pretzels! Who could beat that???
Fabulous post! I am happy knowing how blessed I am to have amazing people who touch my life. I give infinite thanks to have two living parents, the best dog in the Universe, a good husband and stepson. And of course to have a job I find meaning in. So much tom make one happy!
I work with someone like that. I've stopped asking her how she is because it's always the worst case scenario. What makes me happy? Get ready ...
Babies (especially mine), Rainy days, Chick flicks, Finding a bargain, My life, 3-day weekends, reading blogs written by happy people, photography!, trips, books, handwritten notes, and SO much more...
My wonderful hubby and good friends, my dog with all her quirks and cooking for people who enjoy good food makes me happy!
Last year I received a tee that has POSITIVITIST across the front.
A really great gift!!! I hope I won't wear it out.
Those are all wonderful and positive things to be happy about...stay away from those "joy suckers" who steal your positive energy!
I'm so happy that I know such positive people in the real and virtual world! Thanks for all the great comments!
I always say that the one thing you can control is your attitude. You can CHOOSE to be positive or CHOOSE to be negative. No matter what actually happens, it's how you REACT that kind of says who you are and I'd much rather find something positive even if the situation isn't the greatest. You can always find a way to laugh about it... at least later anyway! :-)
LOL good point PLR... touche! ;o)
