Let's Answer Some Questions

A few questions have been hanging over my head for a while now and I feel the urge to finally answer them. By the way, this is the biggest drawback to using Blogger as my blogging platform. Unlike TypePad or WordPress, I can’t send an email response to a commenter. Rrrgh!

The Old Milk Barn Bar
The best place in northern New Jersey to get ice cream. EVER. Unfortunately, the Milk Barn closed in 2002 and the car dealership next door expanded their parking lot. The barn was a Dutch timber frame built in 1790 but was never registered as an historic building. Rumor has it that the Milk Barn was only dismantled. Supposedly, if the funding is ever received, the barn is to be reassembled on the property of the Van Riper-Hopper House. That’s only what I heard years ago but I can’t find anything online to verify it. Personally, I haven’t been there in 15 years. As for the ice cream, someone has to have those recipes!

Bacon Day in the Pines Lake Redhead family is May 30th. I only just Googled it and discovered that there is an International Bacon Day celebrated in September. But Bacon Day in our house isn’t all about eating that delicious, crunchy, salty pork product. Bacon Day celebrates the day that my Sweetie legally adopted the boys in 2006. It’s the day we all got the same last name. How cool is that?

Shrimps and Yea
You may have noticed that I jokingly say shrimps as the plural for shrimp. This is something that I noticed to be unique to Louisiana. I figured since I gave birth in that state I'm entitled to say shrimps whenever I like. The only other word that I knowingly use wrong is yea instead of yes. This is something that I noticed to be quite common in New Jersey. I used to drive my father nuts while growing up. He constantly corrected me. When my kids were younger I corrected them to say yes instead of yea. Finally, one day they pointed out that I say yea. I really couldn't argue with them so I allow it. Yea is the only speech holdover I have from growing up in NJ. At least I don't have the accent! My parents made sure of that!

My camera
I have a Nikon D40 DSLR and it's so easy to use!

Citrus Vinaigrette Recipe
I’ll warn you now that I don’t measure. I do it all by taste.
  • Juice of one orange
  • Juice of one lemon
  • Lemon zest
  • Pinch of salt
  • Small garlic clove grated (I use the zester)
  • White wine vinegar
  • Olive Oil

Whisk all ingredients together

I love Bacon Day. It is such a happy thing and I'm glad that you all celebrate.

This is a great post - I love the random tidbit feel of it!

I am able to respond to comments via email if my commenters have their email in their profile. Otherwise I do it on the comments page.

Have a lovely day Erica!

I have never heard of Bacon Day, although some of my middle school students in my small group at church were describing an assignment wherein they had to make a bacon catalog. Later, someone from the group sent along a bacon link where you can purchase things like bacon lunch boxes and bacon band aids. If anyone wants it, I'd send it along...because the thing I don't know how to do in blogger is hyperlink in comments. For years, like four plus, I thought that you couldn't email commenters--then a fellow blogger told me that you just link your email to your blog in your profile and viola--it worked!

So sad that they would tear down an super old building like that just cause no one filed the right paperwork to record it as a historical marker. I really do hope the rumor is correct.

Thanks for the camera type, will be looking that up here in a minute.
