Ever since I stopped my weekly photo challenge I don't carry my camera around with me as much. OK, hardly at all. Naturally, I find myself thinking, That would be a great shot... only to realize that I'm sans camera.
The other morning on my way to work, I noticed a circus tent going up in the parking lot of the dog track.
I'll let that sentence register for a moment.
Yes, there is a greyhound racetrack in town.
Yes, I pass it every day to and from work.
No, I've never been there.
Anyway, when I rounded the bend and saw the supports for the tent, I thought that it would be cool, exciting, interesting, magical to watch the largest remaining American circus tent go up. But alas, I had to go to work.
By the end of the day, I had completely forgotten about the circus until I stopped at a red light and saw the big top. I'm not a fan of the circus but the sight of the yellow & red striped tent with the American flags highlighted by the sun caught my full attention.
I wish I had my camera. But even if I did, there wasn't a safe place for me to stop. And definitely not a safe vantage point to take a photo.
I quickly snapped a pic with my phone but it's just not the same. Plus, as phone cameras go, mine is lousy. I've seen some photos people have taken with their iPhones and they are nice! Makes me have phone envy.
I suppose I should resume carrying my Nikon around with me again. But an iPhone is so much smaller.

I have always loved the look of a circus tent. But like you not real thrilled with the circus.
As for camera phones. My Black Berry doesn't take very good pictures either. But it's not worth the switch to the iPhone. I know 2 people with Droids and they take really great pics. Worthy of being blown up and framed. Just a thought.
Still a great shot. Something is magical about the cicus (especially when they don't use animals... :) ) I have terrible phone envy now. Want an iPhone. But I think I'll follow your advice and wait until Verizon becomes a service provider. The Greyhound track is reason for pause. So sad...
We saw the circus not too long ago in an arena. Just not the same as in a tent! You have iPhone envy, I have tent envy. But then again, I've 2 young boys!
They do say, "The best camera with which to take the shot is the camera you have with you." A Nikon is a big thing to lug around. I like my Panasonic Lumix TZ4 with a 12x optical zoom. It shoots awesome pictures and it's no bigger than a regular snappy. Sadly, I gave it to my darling wife because it's the best camera we have. I carry an old junker Kodak V570 now, both because it's small and she already dropped and broke it, so after its repair, she is no longer allowed to touch it.
I miss the weekly photo challenge!
I've been tempted to get a quality point and shoot for moments like these. I miss too many shots because it's a pain to lug the Canon around everywhere.
